Description
Douglas Almshouses, located on the west side of Faversham Road in Lenham, were built in the mid-19th century. They are constructed of red brick, primarily in header bond, and feature a plain tile roof. The first floor has a small area of banded plain and fishscale tile-hanging, positioned off-centre to the left. The building is oriented at right angles to the road, forming the north side of an unenclosed courtyard, with a former mortuary situated between the end of the row and the road.
The almshouses are two storeys high and have projecting eaves with flat soffits. There are brick ridge stacks at both ends of the row and two additional stacks towards the centre. The windows are arranged irregularly, comprising eight in total: seven are two-light horizontally-sliding sashes, and one is a single-light casement. The ground floor windows feature segmental heads. There are two half-glazed doors; one is located beneath the tile-hanging and the other is immediately to the right, while there is a blocked door at the left end. The interior has not been inspected.
