Description
The gate and lodges of Oakwood Hospital, built in 1833, are constructed from ashlar stone. They feature two heavily rusticated stone gate piers that connect to two lodges through pedestrian arches. Each lodge is two storeys tall and has one window, with the ground floor also rusticated. The design includes a parapet, cornice, and stringcourse, and the glazing bars are intact. The central part of each lodge projects slightly. On either side of the lodges, additional rusticated gate piers create pedestrian arches on the inner side and lead to a curved curtain wall on the outer side, which has a balancing pier on the opposite side where the wall continues square. There are cast iron and glass lamps mounted on the inner stone piers.
