Description
This is an archway dating from the 16th or early 17th century, located about 10 metres south of the west end of Boughton Monchelsea Place. It is constructed of ragstone with tooled ashlar dressings. The archway features a round-headed design that is broadly chamfered to the east with a high vase chamfer-stop, and it is rebated to the west with an outer order that is chamfered with broach stops only at the head of the arch. There are short lengths of wall on each side of the archway, which rise to a stone-coped gable topped with a ball finial. This archway was originally part of the east perimeter wall of a courtyard located to the south and southeast of Boughton Monchelsea Place but was moved further west, likely in the 19th century.
