Description

This is probably the remnant of a 15th-century open hall, and was once known as the Plough Inn. It is now used as a booking office with a flat above. The ground floor is rendered, while the first floor and gable project and are clad in creosoted weatherboard. The building has shop windows and a door at street level, and a single four-light casement window on the first floor. A tiled roof sits atop the structure. A chimney, constructed from small 16th-century bricks in an intricate design, was likely added later. It occupies a significant portion of the interior, featuring a large open fireplace with a wooden bressumer on the first floor. There is potentially a similar fireplace on the ground floor which the current owner intends to uncover by removing modern panelling. The chimney terminates in an elaborate brickwork triple stack. Internally, upright jowled corner posts and curved braces are visible.
