Description
39, The Terrace is a corner house dating to around 1840, likely designed by the Brighton architect Amon Henry Wilds between 1830 and 1835. It stands at the corner of The Terrace and Harmer Street. The house is three storeys high, built of brown stock brick with the ground floor painted. Features include a parapet, cornice, and stringcourses. There are three sash windows facing The Terrace and three facing Harmer Street, all retaining their original glazing bars. The ground floor incorporates round-headed windows within an arcaded design. Both frontages have a round-headed doorway incorporating a semi-circular fanlight. Iron balconettes are present on the front facing The Terrace, and an iron balcony, likely added later, on the Harmer Street front. The former stables associated with No. 39 form a group with Nos. 1A and 2A Harmer Street.
