Description
Constitution Crescent comprises a crescent of four houses dating from around 1830. The houses are three storeys high, with an attic and basement, and are faced with Roman cement, with the ground floor stuccoed. They have mansard slate roofs with three dormers per house, as well as a stone cornice and parapet. Each house has three sash windows. The upper-floor windows have moulded surrounds with architraves above the first floor and friezes decorated with paterae. Iron balconettes are present at numbers 1 and 4. The ground-floor windows are round-headed and recessed, and a projecting terrace with a stuccoed balustrade and four centred arches sits in front of them. At basement level, the terrace is flanked by rusticated pilasters, one in each house. Number 4 lacks this terrace but has two flights of steps, one curved, leading up to the entrances of numbers 1 to 3. Numbers 1 and 4 have an additional ground-floor section of two window bays at the outer end of the houses, with later additions to number 4. The round-headed doorways have semi-circular fanlights. Numbers 1 to 4 form a group of buildings of group value.
