Description

Oriel Cottage is a house that dates back to the 17th century or earlier, with a facade from the 19th century. The ground floor is made of painted brick, while the first floor features a combination of banded plain and fishscale tiles. The gable ends are constructed of red brick, and the roof is covered with plain tiles. The building may consist of two parallel ranges that are positioned at right angles to the road and are linked across the front gable ends. The right range might have originally served as a cross-wing to Brogdale, which is located to the right.

The house has two storeys and stands on a painted brick plinth. It features a continuous jetty with a perforated fascia board, and the brick gable ends are corbelled out around the jetty. Each range has a hipped roof that slopes towards the front, with the right range having a gablet, and the hips of both roofs meet at a ridge in between. There is no visible chimney stack.

The windows are arranged irregularly, consisting of three openings: two six-pane sash windows and a small central triangular oriel window supported by a shaped bracket. The ground floor includes two canted bay windows. A central door with four fielded panels and two top lights is accessed by a flight of steps. To the left, there is a painted brick lean-to, and adjacent to that is a single-storey painted brick addition with dentilled brick eaves and a plain tile roof that is hipped to the left. The interior has not been inspected.
