Description

Nos. 4-7 Marine Parade form a small terrace of four houses begun in 1848. They are a rare example of Regency style architecture in Folkestone. The houses are stuccoed and have four storeys plus a basement. Each house has three windows and a similar appearance.

The facades feature engaged composite columns on the first floor, supporting an entablature above. A dentilled cornice runs above the second floor, and another cornice is followed by a parapet bearing urns at each corner. A balcony is located on the first floor, supported by brackets and featuring an iron railing. French windows are set behind a quarter-spherical hood on the balcony. The ground and second floors have round-headed sash windows, while the third floor windows are square-headed, originally with semi-circular tympana above; shell ornamentation is now present only above the window of No. 6. The glazing bars remain intact in the sash windows. The doorways are round-headed, each with a semi-circular fanlight above.

Nos. 4 to 15 Marine Parade form a group.
