Description

This is a mid-19th century terrace of six buildings numbered 5 to 13, located on the north-west side of The Bayle in Folkestone. The buildings are not uniform in appearance. Numbers 5 and 11 have stuccoed frontages, while the rest are faced with painted brick. All have hipped tiled roofs. Each building has one window on the principal elevation. The windows are primarily sash windows, some with only vertical glazing bars, and others retaining their original glazing patterns. Number 11 features Venetian shutters. The doorcases are distinguished by cornices and pilasters, with numbers 11 and 13 also featuring console brackets. Number 9 has a simple round-headed doorcase, and number 5 incorporates a mid-19th century two-story stuccoed extension set back on its left side. This extension is capped with a hipped tiled roof and features one sash window with vertical glazing bars, along with a cambered doorcase. Numbers 5 to 21 (odd) are designated as a group of buildings of group value.
