Description
21 to 27 Church Hill are four cottages from the 18th century, standing two storeys high. The ground floor is constructed of sandstone rubble, while the upper floors are made of red brick, except for No 21, which features weatherboarding on the first floor. The cottages have tiled roofs and a modillion eaves cornice. Each cottage has one sash window, except for No 21, which has two windows, all with intact glazing bars.
No 21 boasts a doorcase with a frame that has a projecting cornice above, a rectangular fanlight, and a six-panelled moulded door. No 23 has a doorcase that is raised six steps above the street level, featuring a flat hood supported by brackets and a six-panel moulded door, with the top two panels cut away and glazed. Nos 25 and 27 have simple wooden doorcases with flat weather hoods.
These cottages form a cohesive group.
