Description
The churchyard wall and gate piers, located about 20 meters north of the Church of St Nicholas, date from around 1700, with the wall being later from the 18th century. The gate piers are made of red brick with stone dressings and stand about 10 feet high, featuring moulded stone offsets and stone cornice caps. There are enriched scrolled consoles on the abutments to the left and right. Between the piers, there are three stone steps and 20th-century iron rails. The wall is constructed of red brick with stone coping and runs along the road front to the west, increasing in height from about 4 feet to about 10 feet as the road descends. The wall is approximately 100 yards long, with the last 30 yards having a plinth, and the final 8 yards are buttressed to support a flight of steps on the churchyard side.
