Description
Wyborne's Charity is a house that underwent early 18th century alterations to a building that dates back to the 16th century or earlier. It features a timber frame that is clad and infilled with red brick, topped with a thatched roof and a plain tiled outshot. The structure has one storey and an attic, with the upper half of the walls displaying the exposed frame. The hipped roof includes two raking dormers and a stack at the right end. The front has two 20th century wooden casement windows and a central boarded door set within a glazed porch. To the right, there are garage doors, and at the rear, there is a catslide outshot. Inside, there is an inglenook fireplace, and the frame is visible with steeply cambered tie-beams. The house was bequeathed by Robert Wyborne in 1709 as part of a charitable relief for the poor of Preston, a purpose it served until the early 20th century.
