Description
The chest tomb and two headstones are located about 15 metres east of the Church of St. Martin of Tours in Guston. The chest tomb commemorates Lawrence Baker, who died in 1779, along with later burials. It is set on a moulded plinth and features heavy vase-like side pieces, raised and fielded panels, and a moulded top slab, although the original inscription has been partially covered by later inscriptions. The tomb is enclosed by a railing with spiked finials and urn-like elements.
One headstone is dedicated to John Guigon and May, dated 1772, standing about 3½ feet high. It has a broad segmental cornice head, scrolled shoulders, and displays a coat of arms with scrolls and palm fronds behind. The second headstone is for Elizabeth Prescott, who died in 1779, also about 3½ feet high, featuring a segmental head and decorative motifs of a cherub and drapery on a floriate base.
