Description
Sandwich Railway Station is a railway station that opened in 1847 as part of the South Eastern Railway. It is built of yellow brick in Flemish bond with a slate roof and features four brick and stuccoed chimneystacks. The building is two storeys high and has five windows. The end bays are separated from the central three bays by deep pilasters with stuccoed caps. There is a stuccoed parapet with a central raised and curved panel. The windows are sashes with marginal glazing, and the end ones are tripartite. In front of the three central bays, there is a portico supported by four Tuscan columns and topped with a hipped slate roof. The station has a plinth and a one-storey extension to the right that was added in 1892. The platform side is similar to the main façade, but most of the sashes do not have marginal glazing. The canopy has been renewed and is supported on eight cast iron brackets.
