Description

This is a tomb chest and headstone located about 1.5 metres east of the Church of St. Nicholas in Sholden. The tomb chest dates from the late 17th century and features a moulded and inscribed top slab resting on a red brick chest with a plinth. The inscription on the top slab is illegible. The headstone commemorates Elizabeth Ratley, who died in 1776. It stands about 3 feet high and has scrolled shoulders with a palm frond surround to the heraldic achievement.
