Description

The Octagonal Tower in the grounds of The Warren is a gazebo dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. The structure features flint construction with red brick dressings and a plain tiled roof. It has an octagonal shape and consists of one storey and a basement. There is a continuous wooden casement on three sides, and access is provided via stairs at the rear. Originally located in Ingress Park, the tower was designed to offer views of the River Thames. Sir William Chambers is known to have designed an enlargement of the house and garden buildings around 1772, but this particular building cannot currently be confirmed as his work. It is part of a series of garden buildings in Ingress Park. The windows and roof covering were replaced in the early 20th century.
