Description

Bedford House is a 16th century or earlier timber-framed building featuring plaster infilling. Part of the ground floor has been rebuilt in painted brick, while the first floor overhangs on a bressumer supported by brackets with curved braces. The building has two gables that also overhang on brackets. It has a hipped tiled roof with a 17th century brick chimneystack. There are four casement windows on the southeast side and two on the northeast side, with traces of the original mullioned windows still visible. The building includes four-centred wooden doorways and a moulded dragon post. Historically, this structure served as an inn and later as the local poor-house.
