Description
The Steward's House at Broome Park Hotel was built by Sir Henry Oxenden around 1778, likely designed by James Gandon. This charming early Gothick house is two storeys high and is faced with mapped flints, featuring a hipped slate roof and a castellated parapet. The house has three windows on the north side, four on the south, and two on both the east and west sides. Each facade is flanked by rusticated quoins made from large, outwardly placed unknapped flints. The central window bay on the north front and the two central window bays on the south front project slightly and are also flanked by quoins. The window bays on the east and west fronts are similarly flanked, with the southernmost bay on each side projecting slightly and topped with a gable that contains a quatrefoil window. The pointed casement windows, which have two lights, feature leaded glazing bars, with the first-floor windows on the south front being larger than the others. Both the north and south fronts have an obtusely pointed doorway with a fanlight, which does not have glazing bars. It is noted that the house was the residence of Lord Kitchener during the alterations to Broome Park.
