Description
The Church of St Bartholomew is a Grade I listed building located on Church Lane in Waltham. It is constructed of flint with stone dressings and features a tiled roof over the nave and lower chancel. The church has a central tower and a south porch that is blocked off from the main body of the church, with large quoins. The nave dates back to the Norman period, with some 13th-century and 14th-century windows. The chancel, tower, and porch are from the 13th century, with the tower having been restored in 1808, although it retains 13th-century and 14th-century foundations. There is an 18th-century west gallery and a 14th-century triple ogee-arched sedilia located in the north wall of the chancel. The churchyard features several 18th-century headstones adorned with skull or cherub motifs, as well as some oval bodystones.
