Description
Old Hall is a 14th-century former open hall that features a separately roofed cross-wing, which includes a kitchen below and a solar above. The building has plaster and painted brick infilling, with the first floor of the south-westernmost window bay being tile hung and oversailing on the protruding ends of the floor joists, along with a bracket and a modern buttress. There is a small bay to the north-east with a gabled dormer above. The original thatched roof has been entirely replaced with tiles, although it retains smoke gablets. The ground floor includes two original mullioned window openings and two casement windows, as well as a small 19th-century gabled porch. Inside, the roof is of collar purlin type, with only the top of the crown post surviving. There are dragon beams at the south-east and south-west corners, a 17th-century fireplace with a bread oven, and 17th-century doors with battlemented surrounds. Old Hall is listed as Grade II* due to its antiquity and significant interior features.
