Description

The Gatehouse at The Old Palace, dating from the 16th century, was part of Archbishop Thomas Cranmer's Palace. It is a two-storey structure made of red brick laid in English bond, topped with a hipped slate roof. The building features three casement windows with two lights, each having four-centred heads and stone mullions. On the west wall, there is a four-centred stone doorway, above which is an inscription reading "T C (Thomas Cranmer) 1552" along with a cartouche displaying the arms of Archbishop Parker of Canterbury. A chimney breast is located on the north wall. Adjacent to the cottage is a red brick barn with a tiled roof, gable ends, a hipped wagon entrance, and additional casement windows.
