Description

Cobham Court, likely dating to the late medieval period, originally formed an L-shaped building consisting of the present south-east and south-west fronts. The original section is constructed of red brick and features a stringcourse, with casement windows. In the early 19th century, the angle of the L was filled in and faces north-west, with a roughcast facade and sash windows retaining their original glazing bars. A round-headed doorcase with a semi-circular fanlight and a six-panel door is also present. The tiled roof is hipped in three places. Historically, the building served as the Court House for the manor and is reputed to contain a large panelled room where the Court of the Deputy Mayor of Hastings convened. Bekesbourne held a significant position as part of the Cinque Ports.
