Description
This is a wall built in the mid 18th century, located about 25 to 50 metres southwest of South Hill in Hastingleigh. The wall is constructed of red brick resting on a ragstone base and stands approximately 7 feet high on a stone plinth. It measures about 20 metres in length and has a canted shape, ending with piers that are around 8 feet high, topped with ball finials. The southern pier shows bonding marks for a wall that was intended to project eastward but was never constructed. Additionally, the gate and piers to the south were added in the mid 20th century by Arthur Cotton of Hythe, featuring 18th-century urns placed on top of the piers, which are detailed excellently.
