Description

This gatehouse was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens for H J Tennant, constructed between 1909 and 1912. It comprises a central carriage archway with a lodge or cottage built on either side. The gatehouse is primarily constructed of grey stretchered bricks, with red brick window surrounds and decorative bands. It features a hipped tiled roof. Inside the carriage archway are round windows, and above them a clock face and a wooden cupola. The lodges on the north-east side, facing the road, are L-shaped. The sections closest to the archway are single-story with attics, each with one window bay. These are flanked by pilasters, with a single window at first-floor level, a moulded wooden cornice, and a parapet above. On the inner, south-west side, facing the house, there are three windows and three dormers on each side of the carriage archway, all with segmental heads.
