Description

Newhouse is a house dating from the early 18th century, with a core that dates back to the 17th century. It is constructed of red and blue brick and ragstone, topped with a plain tiled roof. The building has two storeys, an attic, and a basement, featuring a ragstone plinth, a plat band, and a moulded wooden modillion eaves cornice on a hipped roof. There are two gabled dormers and a central segmental dormer, with chimney stacks at both ends.

The front has a regular arrangement of seven glazing bar sash windows on the first floor and six on the ground floor, with two segmentally headed basement openings to the left, separated by a blank panel. The central entrance features a glazed door with a rectangular fanlight, framed by a moulded architrave and a segmental pediment on console brackets, accessed by four moulded steps.

To the left, there is a single-storey extension that has a modillion eaves cornice and gauged oval windows, likely from the early 20th century. The rear elevations are partly red brick in English bond, set on a ragstone plinth, with a plinth, plat, and brick eaves cornice on a hipped roof that includes three gabled dormers. There are lozenge-set stacks to the left and additional stacks at the projecting end on the right. The rear features irregular fenestration with a mix of glazing bar sashes and wooden casements. The house has eight bays in total, with a central door consisting of four panels set within a Doric pedimented doorcase. Internally, there is reported panelling and a contemporary staircase.
