Description
Pemsey Farmhouse is a house dating from the 16th century. It is timber framed with plaster infill and has a plain tiled roof. The building has two and a half bays and features a cross-passage plan. It stands two storeys high on a ragstone plinth, showcasing large panel framing with a continuous jetty supported by a moulded dragon post, which returns to the right side. The roof is hipped with a gablet on the right and a stack also on the right. There are three wooden casements on each floor. To the left, there is a late 20th-century gabled timber porch that incorporates an earlier outshot. At the rear left, there is a two-storey late 20th-century red brick wing. The original cross-passage entry is located to the right, indicated by a break in the ragstone plinth, while a later doorway in the centre has been blocked. The rear cross-passage door remains, featuring a four-centred arch with a moulded surround and fern-leaf enrichment in the spandrel. Additionally, there is a second four-centred arched door, likely not in its original position, with spandrels carved with scenes of dogs licking ladles and a head stuck in a cooking pot. The house also has a moulded fireplace bresummer.
