Description
Singleton Manor is a 16th century or earlier timber-framed building with a tiled roof. The entrance front on the north-west side features plaster infilling on the first floor, while the ground floor has been rebuilt in red brick. The end window bays project with hips above, and it is likely that their first floors once overhung on bressummers, which have now been underbuilt in brick. A crow-stepped brick chimney breast is present. Between this chimney and the south-westernmost window bay, there is a window consisting of three tiers of five lights with wooden mullions and transoms.
Towards the north-east end, there is a small two-storey gabled projection that contains a porch on the ground floor. This porch has an archway with an obtusely-pointed head and carved spandrels, while the first floor oversails above a cove and features a small oriel window with a cover beneath it. There are two additional windows of five lights located between the porch and the chimney breast, along with six casement windows, some of which have early 19th century Gothic glazing. The building has two storeys and attics, including one gabled dormer.
The garden front on the south-east side is half H-shaped. The north-east arm of this half-H has its first floor oversailing and is faced with stone rubble, topped by a narrow tile-hung gable and a pentice to the north-east. The south-west arm of the half-H is tile-hung with a hip roof and was likely added later. The house retains its complete moat. Inside, there is a late 16th century plaster ceiling and six carved relief heads over the fireplace, which are similar to those found at Godinton and Court Lodge.
