Description

The Old Granary, in Great Chart, is a pair of timber-framed buildings dating from the 16th century or earlier. The ground floors are constructed of red brick, while the upper floors are tile-hung, with the exception of the east front of number 11. On this front, the timber framing is exposed at ground floor level, with plaster infilling. The first floor of number 11 significantly projects, supported by brackets and exposing the ends of the floor joists. The roofs are hipped and tiled. The buildings are two storeys high, with five casement windows overall. Numbers 7 and 9 have been combined into a single dwelling.
