Description
- 5272 GREAT CHART GODINTON PARK The Courtyard, comprising Stable Cottage, Dairy Cottage, garages and Shepherd's Cottage TQ 94 SE 15/30A II 2. C17. Red brick. The entrance to these is on the north and consists of a round headed stone carriage archway flanked by pedestrian archways, with a shaped Dutch gable over containing a cartouche, and on each side of this a projection with another shaped Dutch gable making a half-H. Behind the west projection is a long building, once the stables now a garage, with a brick modillion eaves cornice, tiled roof and 3 doorways with rectangular fanlights and flat hoods over, to which tiled canopies have been added at a later date. The rear elevation has round headed windows. Beyond the east projection is Stable Cottage, part of the garages. Dairy Cottage, which is attached to this is C19, 2 storeys. Ground floor red brick, first floor tile hung. Two shaped gables. Two casements. Shaped gable. Doorcase with cartouche of Toke family. Behind this to the south-east is another C17 building now called Shepherd's Cottage, in red brick with a tiled roof, which has been much altered and added to, with, in the centre of its east front, a shaped Dutch gable containing an octagonal clock face and, behind the gable, a wooden bell turret surmounted by a ogee-shaped lead canopy.
