Description
Bilting Court is a hall house, dating to the 15th century. It has been adapted for use as an artist's studio. The house is timber-framed and now clad in red brick, with a plain tile roof. It has two storeys, a plinth, and a hipped roof with projecting hips to the left and right, raised eaves levels, and gablets. A large stack is positioned centrally to the left. Each wing has one wooden casement window on each floor, and a large two-storey hall is situated to the right. A four-panelled door is set in a basket-arched opening with a flight of four steps to the left. A 20th-century wing has been added to the left and rear.
The interior chambers contain a 16th-century fireplace, octagonal crown posts, and roofs running transverse to the hall. The hall is open to the roof, as is the right cross-wing. A firehood and a 17th-century fireplace have been inserted into a screens passage. There is a single crown post, and solid spandrels are also present. Some wood mullioned windows remain.
