Description

This chest tomb and headstone are located about 15 metres south-west of the Church of St. Matthew. The chest tomb is dedicated to Richard Foord, who died in 1818, and his family. It features an originally railed base with a moulded plinth, raised and fielded side panels with cut-out corners, ovolo-moulded incised piers, and an inscribed top slab. Leaning against the tomb is the headstone of Mary Hodges, who died in 1709. This headstone stands about 2 and a half feet high and has an incised panel with a segmental head on scrolled shoulders, decorated with motifs of a lily and skull and bones.
