Description
Christ's Hospital, built in 1833, consists of Nos 1 to 7 in Symonds Street. Although it is dated 1607 on the stone in the south gable end, the building was altered in the late 19th century. It features two storeys, except for the central gable on the east front, which has five storeys. The structure is made of red brick with stone quoins and blue brick patterns set on a flint base. The central east gable has been rebuilt. The ground floor includes eight windows and five doors, while the first floor has eight windows. All windows are casements from the 19th century, set in plain wood frames, with two and three-light configurations, and a four-light window in the center. The doorways are arched. The roof is tiled, and there are original stacks made of red brick set diagonally on stone bases at the rear. No 7 was added in grey brick in the mid-19th century.
