Description

30 and 32 Upper Brook Street is a heritage centre that was originally a pair of cottages. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with the side elevations featuring brick in English bond on the ground floor and tile hanging above. It has a hipped slate roof with five brick chimney stacks and stands two storeys tall, with three windows. The centre of the building projects slightly, and it has blue brick quoins at the ends. There are four S-shaped iron ties, and the windows have flat rubbed brick voussoirs. The central window has 20 panes and stone cills, while the end windows have 16-pane sashes with stone cills and moulded architraves. There are two 20th-century doors located under original rubbed brick flat arches.

The rear elevation features three narrow three-light windows, which are now 20th-century metal-framed casements but retain their original wooden frames. Inside on the ground floor, there is a wooden fireplace with lozenge-shaped decoration and a late 19th-century firegrate with a leaf design, along with a dado rail and plank doors. The semi-winder staircase leads to the first floor, where the left-side room has an early 19th-century firegrate with lattice decoration, scrollwork, and fluted sides. The attic room contains an early 19th-century firegrate with a semi-circular surround and Gothick motifs, while the end room features an early 19th-century four-panelled cupboard and likely another early 19th-century surround, although the firegrate is boarded over.
