Description
Dome Alley consists of two groups of gabled five-storey houses built soon after 1660, located opposite each other on a narrow lane. Each group features eight gables and comprises two houses, constructed with red brick walls and topped with old tile roofs. The buildings have fine lead rainwater heads and good brick stacks. The gables have been altered, with straight barge boards added that cut into the moulded cornice. The north group remains comparatively unspoilt, while the south group has undergone alterations. The windows are irregular, with some being casements that retain original mullioned and transomed frames, while others are sashes with glazing bars. All listed buildings in The Close form a group.
