Description
The Kings Worthy War Memorial is made of granite and features a wheel-head cross atop a tapering shaft, both adorned with carved Celtic-style knotwork and ball designs on the front face. The cross is set on a tapering plinth, which is square in shape and rests on a single-stepped base.
The memorial includes inscriptions made with painted lead lettering. On the north-east face of the plinth, the inscription reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ AND IN BELOVED MEMORY OF/ BRYCE STEWART/ LIEUT 2ND BATTN SEAFORTH HIGHLANDERS/ KILLED IN ACTION AT SANNA-I-YAT/ MESOPOTAMIA DURING THE OPERATIONS/ FOR THE RELIEF OF KUT/ ON THE 22ND APRIL, 1916,/ AGED 22 YEARS."
The north-west face honors those from the parish who lost their lives, stating: "IN HONOURED MEMORY OF/ THOSE MEN FROM THIS PARISH/ WHO ALSO GAVE THEIR LIVES/ FOR THEIR COUNTRY/ (NAMES)." Additional names have been added to the north-west and south-east faces.
On the front face of the base, there is another inscription that reads: "WHEN CHRIST, WHO IS OUR LIFE, SHALL APPEAR/ THEN SHALL YE ALSO APPEAR WITH HIM IN GLORY."
