Description
Nos 8 and 9A on Kingsgate Street date back to 1833 and are notable for their 18th-century architectural features. The building is two storeys tall with an attic, constructed from colourwashed brick and featuring a moulded brick string course. It has an old tiled roof and originally had nine windows, though it now has six, with two blank spaces and a central bow window on the first floor that includes a triglyph frieze and a moulded cornice.
On the ground floor, there are three doors, one located beneath the bow window. The doors for No 8 have plain casings adorned with diamond ornament and rectangular fanlights. The central door features an original lantern within the fanlight and is a six-panel door with panelled reveals. The door for No 9A is framed by Doric pilasters and an entablature. The building has sash windows with glazing bars and a modillion cornice, along with five modern dormers. A plaque indicates that this was the home of Samuel Sebastian Wesley. All the listed buildings on Kingsgate Street are part of a group value context.
