Description
Church Farmhouse is a house dating from the 15th century, with additions and alterations made in the late 18th century, and minor changes in the early and late 20th century. The building features timber framing, with walls made of brick, stone, and flint, topped by a tiled roof. It has a two-storey, four-bay structure with a substantial late-medieval frame, and an extension from the late 18th century that creates a symmetrical front with three windows.
The long west elevation showcases the exposed frame, with brick nogging and some reused stone at the lower part. It has irregular upper casements and a French window on the ground floor. The south elevation displays a brick dentil eaves and red brick walls arranged in Monk and Flemish Garden Wall bonds, with horizontal flint bands on the eastern half. This side features upper casements and late 20th-century bow windows on the ground floor, along with a French door set within an architrave, supported by carved brackets and a moulded canopy. Above the door are two late 18th-century Sun (fire) insurance signs. An early 20th-century addition at the angle continues the pattern of banded walls on the east elevation. The roof is hipped, with a non-conforming joint between the older and late 18th-century sections.
Inside, the frame is exposed and includes two arched doorways, a massive chimney breast, some wattle and daub, and diagonal mullions. A roadside wall made of plastered cob features a thatched capping.
