Description
The Church of All Saints is a parish church that dates from the 12th century, with elements from the 13th, 15th, and 16th centuries, and was restored in 1877. Originally a Norman two-cell church, it was expanded around 1180 to include north and south aisles, featuring two arches supported by round pillars that remain today. The 13th-century extensions continued the arcade, adding two octagonal columns on each side, leading to a short chancel. The eastern unit of the arcade opens onto transepts, with arches that separate them from the aisles and support another arch across the nave. The church has a tiled roof and flint walls with stone dressings, along with lancet and Perpendicular windows, and some corner buttresses. A notable feature is the western tower, built around 1610 in Perpendicular style, which is integrated into the end of the nave and has a castellated parapet and an octagonal stair turret within one of two massive diagonal buttresses. The south porch dates from the last period of construction. Inside, there are several wall monuments from the early 19th century, floor slabs from the late 18th century, a Purbeck font from the second period with a square bowl and arcaded sides resting on a central drum and four columns, medieval encaustic tiles in the sanctuary, a 17th-century altar table with carved Flemish figures, and prescription boards located in the tower.
