Description
Malthouse Cottage is a cottage with a gable facing the roadway and a small former malthouse attached at one end. It dates from the 17th century and late 18th century. The building is constructed of brick, featuring a thatched roof on the cottage and a tiled roof on the malthouse. It has one storey and an attic, with two windows on the northeast front. The roof is half-hipped, with eyebrow dormers and a catslide at the rear (southwest). The malthouse retains the remains of a ventilation cap at the top. The walls are built in a mix of Flemish and English bond, with cambered openings on the ground floor, and there are fragments of exposed framing. The malthouse has exposed bricknogged framing on its northeast elevation. The windows are casements, and there is a 20th-century gabled brick porch with a tiled roof.
