Description
The Station Hotel, built in the early 19th century, was originally known as the Eight Bells Public House and is located next to the wharf at the head of the canal from Redbridge (1796). The building features a regular facade on the north side, comprising two storeys with five windows above three. It has a low-pitched slate roof that is hipped at the west end and gabled at the east. The walls are made of painted brick in Flemish bond, with rubbed flat arches and stone cills. The windows include Victorian sashes, a three-window angular bay on the first floor at the east side, and tripartite sashes on the ground floor. The entrance is marked by a simple Tuscan porch with two columns and two pilasters, leading to a six-panelled door beneath a fanlight. A long lower wing extends to the rear on the west side.
