Description

St. Michael's Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations in the 18th century. It is located on Village Street in Chilbolton. The house has two storeys and three windows. It has a thatched roof, half-hipped at the north-east end, hipped at the south-west end, and with a low eaves above an outshot; it also features square eyebrows to the half-dormers. The walls are red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with blue headers. The ground floor openings are cambered, one of which has been widened with a second arch. The north-east gable shows exposed timber framing. The windows are leaded casements, older on the upper floor. An early 19th-century open timber-framed porch with a gabled thatched roof fronts the house, and there is a boarded front door. The building holds group value as a well-preserved example of its type and period.
