Description
This cottage, attached to the north-east corner of the Kingsettle Stud, was built around 1900, likely by G.C. Horsley for H.C. Stephens, a Member of Parliament. It was designed as accommodation for a groom or coachman. The structure features red brickwork in English Cross bond with knapped flint panels and has plain clay tiled roofs along with ornamental brick chimney stacks.
The cottage is single-storey with attics and has a three-bay south elevation. The first bay includes a three-light mullioned stone window, with a three-light casement window in a flat-roofed dormer above. The second bay has a projecting open porch under a catslide roof with a hipped return, supported by two rustic timber posts off a tall brick plinth; the entrance door is framed and boarded. The third bay is blank but features a projecting brick chimney stack and a flintwork panel. The other elevations match the south elevation. Although the interior has not been seen, it is reported to have six bedrooms, some of which oversail bay four of the north range of the Kingsettle Stud.
