Description
This is a group of outbuildings located about 15 metres west of Cholderton Park House, dating from the late 19th century, possibly remodeled by Crickmay and Sons. The buildings are primarily constructed of red brick, with some flintwork, and feature mainly Welsh slate roofs, along with some plain clay tiles and stone slates. The layout is 'L'-shaped, mostly single-storey, but includes a two-storey section in the west range.
The south range is entirely brick with a hipped slate roof at the east end. It has 10 bays, with casement window bays in positions 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 9, mostly featuring 9-panel windows under timber lintels. Bays 2, 5, and 8 have doorways with rectangular fanlights, while bay 10 is recessed.
The west range also has 10 bays. Bay 1 is single-storey under a Welsh slate roof and has 3-light casement windows. Bays 2 to 4 are two-storey, made of knapped flint with banded brickwork and a half-hipped plain clay tiled roof, featuring 3-light casement windows in bays 2 and 3, and a door with a rectangular fanlight in bay 4 on the ground floor. Above, there are 2-light casement windows in bays 2 and 4, and a small circular window in bay 3. Bays 5 to 9 are single-storey, built of brick with a Welsh slate roof, and feature 9-pane casements in bays 5 and 7, along with large doorways in bays 6, 8, and 9. Bay 10 is constructed of unknapped flintwork with a half-hipped stone slated roof set at right angles to the rest, featuring stone dressings to the quoins, a stable door, and a 2-light casement window set in a timber louvred surround above.
An unknapped flint wall extends from the north-east corner eastwards for about 50 metres, with stone copings and dressings. This wall has a central opening with curved plan sweeps and circular piers, serving as an entrance to the courtyard formed by these buildings and Cholderton Park House, which they significantly enhance in terms of setting.
