Description

Middleton House is an early 19th-century mansion with 20th-century extensions, constructed of stucco and slate. The building features a classical symmetrical facade on the southeast side, highlighted by a central section that has two storeys and an attic, with three windows. The two-storey wings on either side each have two windows and are connected to the central section by quarter-round units from the early and late 20th century. The central section is adorned with a balustrade in front of segmental-headed dormers set in a Mansard roof, along with a cornice, rusticated quoins, a first-floor band, and stone architraves with a frieze cornice and plinth. The wings are simpler in design, featuring a cornice, architraves, and plinth, with smaller windows that have similar detailing. The windows are sashes set in reveals.

A Greek Doric porch is present, featuring thin side walls between pilasters and fluted columns, with the door positioned within the columns. The rear (northwest) side has a symmetrical central section with two storeys and an attic, containing five windows and a more understated design, ending in rusticated pilasters on either side. This section includes an ornamented porch beneath a concave metal roof. Flanking this are simpler blocks with parapets, each featuring a bowed wall with a French window beneath a concave metal canopy supported by thin coupled supports. The outermost sections are more irregular in shape. The interior has not been seen.
