Description
The Old Customs building, located at No. 5 Quay Street, dates back to 1680, although its facade is primarily from the 18th century. It features a painted brick facade with a brick eaves cornice and a tiled roof. The building is two storeys high and has sash windows with moulded flush frames and glazing bars on the upper level. The ground floor includes a reproduction bow window, and there are steps leading to the door, which is topped by a flat bracketed hood. The band of stone paving on the west side contributes to the group value of this building alongside Nos 4 to 6 and the Bird Cage opposite, as well as Nos 1 to 3 on Quay Street.
