Description
This is an 18th-century house, although it is believed to have been originally built before 1700, with alterations occurring in the post-18th century period. The north front is constructed of white brick, while the south front is tile hung. The roof is tiled, and the presence of a chimney suggests a 17th-century origin. The house is two storeys high with dormers, featuring seven sash windows with glazing bars. The south front displays a notably irregular appearance. Caroline Anne Bowles resided at the property until her marriage in 1839 and again after Southeys' death in 1843, remaining there until her own death in 1854. The garden wall and gate at No. 86, along with the barn at No. 86, form a group feature with Buckland Cottage and The Chantry.
