Description

Searchfield Farmhouse, originally a manor house, dates to the early 17th century and was altered and extended in the 18th and 19th centuries. The building is constructed of brick with stone dressings to the older portion, and has a plain tile roof. It has an L-shaped plan, comprising a three-bay, two-storey and attic house with a wing added to one side, facing the road. Another part of the building extends towards the far end. The front of the building features the left-hand gable of the 17th-century section. A later wing has an open gabled timber porch on its left-hand side, sheltering a six-panel door. A two- or three-light camber-headed casement window is also present. A straight joint marks the division between the sections, and a flight of stone mullioned windows are visible on the ground and first floors, with a single light in the gable. A raised band is situated on the first floor. A 20th-century glazed timber lean-to sits on the left-hand side, in front of the 18th-century extension. A large stack is on the left-hand roof face of the original building, and another sits at the right-hand end.
