Description

The Old Cottage Restaurant is a 16th-century cottage that has been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries and is now used as a restaurant. It is timber-frame construction with painted brick infill and a thatched roof. The original building was three bays wide, with two bays added later, and further 20th-century additions located at the rear. The front of the building now appears as five bays. The older part of the cottage is located on the right-hand side. Plank doors are situated at the right-hand end, in the right-hand bay of the added section, and at the right-hand end of the addition. A 19th-century small-paned shop window is found in the right-hand bay and right-hand added bay; other bays have 2- or 3-light casement windows. Above the wallplate, there are 2- or 3-light eyebrow dormers, although none are present on the left-hand bay, with two above the right-hand bay. The roof is hipped. A large stack is situated above the right-hand or original centre bay, and an 18th-century stack is located at the right-hand side of the addition.
