Description
The underpass at Tweseldown Racecourse is a late 19th-century structure designed to allow spectators to cross to the other side of the racecourse without walking on the course itself. It is constructed in Flemish bond brickwork, featuring black engineering brick at the coping. The retaining walls on either side enclose a flight of steps that lead down to a tunnel, which has an elliptical arch made of header bond brickwork and is fitted with metal gates. This underpass is an important part of a group of late 19th-century buildings associated with country racecourses.
