Description
Yew Tree Cottage is a 16th and 19th century, two-storey, three-unit timber-framed house located on Greywell Street. The entrance and staircase, which have been altered, are positioned on either side of a large chimney breast. The cottage features three windows and has a red tile roof that is hipped at the south end and has a catslide at the rear. The upper wall exposes the timber frame, which is filled with painted brickwork, while the north gable is tile-hung. The ground-floor walling consists of later painted brickwork. Modern casement windows are present, along with an old leaded light in a small gabled dormer at the rear. The doorway has a solid frame and is topped with a modern hood. There is also a recent extension at the rear of the north end. Historically, the building is said to have served as a Dame's school, and a bell is located at the boarded upper part of the north gable.
